Cara Delevingne is the summer cover star of Playboy Magazine, making history as the first openly lesbian woman to appear on the print publication's cover. For the cover, Delevingne, 33, is featured in a black latex corset by Atsuko Kudo, holding a cigarette to her lips with a lit match. In accompanying images, she also dons the brand’s iconic Bunny Suit corset with matching tail and ears.
Delevingne stated that the photoshoot, which was conducted by a predominantly female and queer creative team, felt empowering. "I’ve never felt more comfortable in my body and in my sexuality. I feel like I’m in more of my prime as a woman and as a sexual being," she told writer Ottessa Moshfegh for the magazine. She described the decision to appear on the cover as a "rebellious thing to do," given Playboy's historical association with heterosexuality.
The publication teased the cover on social media prior to its release. The summer issue, featuring Delevingne, hits newsstands on July 28. This appearance marks a significant moment for LGBTQ+ representation in mainstream media and for Playboy's evolving image.
Delevingne, also a musician, is preparing to release her debut album next month. She previously shared in 2023 her intention to remove some tattoos after getting sober, but the Playboy shoot confirmed she retains some sentimental ink.
The cover was photographed by Zoey Grossman and styled by Lana Jay Lackey. Delevingne has previously appeared nude in shoots and films, but noted that those experiences did not feel empowering in the same way as this Playboy feature.
