Cameron Diaz was seen on a rare public outing in New York City this week, walking with her daughter Raddix Madden and keeping a hand on the little girl's scooter as they crossed a street together.
The 53-year-old actress, who largely avoids the public eye, accompanied her five-year-old daughter on Wednesday, according to onlookers. Raddix wore a hot pink helmet and rode a purple scooter while Diaz held the handlebars; the child was dressed in bright pink leggings and a colorful patterned dress. Diaz was casually attired in a double-denim ensemble and white sneakers, with her blonde hair tied in a ponytail and glasses.
Diaz and her husband, musician Benji Madden, married in January 2015 after less than a year of dating. The couple have kept much of their family life private since Diaz stepped away from acting in 2014 to focus on starting a family. Their daughter Raddix was born on Dec. 30, 2019. The couple surprised fans on March 22, 2024, when they announced the arrival of their son, Cardinal Madden, who is now one year old.
The sighting follows Diaz's return to acting after a decade away. She broke a long acting hiatus to star opposite Jamie Foxx in the Netflix action comedy Back In Action, which premiered in January 2025. Diaz has said she was drawn back to work by the project and by Foxx, telling The Graham Norton Show that she felt it was the right time to re-engage with filmmaking after ten years focused on family.
Diaz has spoken previously about becoming a mother later in life. In a 2020 interview with Naomi Campbell, she described choosing to have children in her 40s as "a real choice" and noted the personal commitment it required. She called motherhood "the best part of [her] life" in remarks on social media the same year.
Benji Madden has occasionally offered public glimpses into their marriage. In January 2025 he marked the couple's 10th wedding anniversary with a social media post calling Diaz his "queen" and praising her as a wife, mother and partner. In a March 2025 appearance on Rob Lowe's SiriusXM podcast Literally!, Benji and his twin Joel Madden discussed their respective marriages and referred to their wives as "strong," with Benji calling both his wife and Joel's wife, Nicole Richie, "queens." He said he and his brother "fear" their partners "in the best way."
Diaz's return to film after her extended break has been framed by the actress as a deliberate decision that balanced family priorities and the opportunity to work with collaborators she respects. The Netflix film marked her first major role since she left the spotlight to build a family with Madden.
The recent public sighting in Manhattan is one of the few times Diaz has been photographed with her children since her return to acting, underscoring her continued preference for privacy even as she resumes public work.
