Cameron Diaz and husband Benji Madden were seen in public together in New York City on Thursday, marking their first joint appearance in roughly a year.

The 53-year-old actress and the 46-year-old Good Charlotte guitarist were accompanied by their youngest child, Cardinal Madden, who is about one year old. Diaz pushed the stroller while holding a beverage as Cardinal, wearing a gray top and blue leggings, squirmed inside. Diaz wore a white T-shirt, worn-in blue jeans and white sneakers with a blue sweater draped over her shoulders and a tan crossbody purse. Madden wore a blue-and-white flannel over a black T-shirt, black slacks and a black cap, and accessorized with a silver chain and stud earrings.

The couple, who wed in 2015, are also parents to daughter Raddix, who is five. They announced the birth of Cardinal in a joint social-media post in spring 2024, writing, "We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our Son, Cardinal Madden." The post added that, for the children’s safety and privacy, the family would not be posting pictures.

Diaz and Madden were last photographed together in public in August 2024 in Montecito, California. The New York outing comes after Diaz shared a rare selfie with her husband earlier this year and amid the family's generally private approach to parenting and public life.

Madden has made infrequent public comments about his marriage. In March he told Rob Lowe on the SiriusXM podcast Literally! that he and his twin brother Joel "fear" their wives "in the best way," calling Diaz and Nicole Richie "queens" and saying, "Go against my wife? Good luck. I don't even need to get involved."

The outing also highlights Diaz’s continued ties to high-profile projects. She is credited to return to the voice cast of the long-running DreamWorks animation series as Fiona in Shrek 5, which Universal recently pushed back from December 2026 to June 30, 2027. The studio said the move shifts the film out of a crowded holiday release window and also reshuffles an untitled Illumination picture into the earlier slot.

Shrek 5 will be the first main-series entry since Shrek Forever After in 2010. Zendaya is joining the cast as Felicia, Shrek’s daughter, while Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Diaz are expected to return as Shrek, Donkey and Fiona, respectively. Murphy has said he has recorded material for the project and described the franchise’s voice-recording process, telling Extra that actors typically receive only their dialogue for each session and often record alone at a microphone.

Murphy also told ScreenRant that a Donkey standalone film is planned, with production scheduled to begin in September. "No, they're still doing voiceover stuff. We're still in the booth, and literally, we're still doing Shrek," he said, adding that work on the Donkey project will follow.

Diaz has remained selective about public appearances since stepping back from full-time acting, and her outings with Madden and their children have been infrequent. Thursday’s sighting in New York provided one of the rare recent glimpses of the family together in public while projects tied to Diaz continue to move through studios’ production and release schedules.
