Callaway announced Thursday it has severed ties with content creator Good Good Golf following widespread criticism of a video that appeared to show a man shoving a woman to the ground. The video, which was removed by Good Good Golf, was intended as a reference to the film "Obsession" and featured a Callaway driver.
Good Good Golf's "Bad Bad Week" has been marked by controversy after the reposting of the video, which drew accusations of portraying violence against women. Callaway stated that the incident served as a powerful reminder of the prevalence of violence against women.
"Unequivocally, violence against women is unacceptable and should never be trivialized, normalized, or used as entertainment," Callaway said in a statement. The company acknowledged that its content review process was insufficient and has since implemented strengthened measures to prevent similar occurrences.
In response to the incident, Callaway committed $1 million to support organizations dedicated to preventing violence against women, aiding survivors, and promoting education and awareness. The company issued a sincere apology for the harm caused and its role in the incident.
Callaway reiterated its commitment to being a positive influence in golf and its communities, emphasizing that this incident underscores an ongoing focus on respect, value, and inclusivity within the sport.
