Burning Man's Orgy Dome has been re-erected for this year's festival after a windstorm last year destroyed its main tent. The camp, known for its adult-themed activities, is back in operation thanks to grassroots donations from attendees.
This year's iteration of the Orgy Dome received a donation of 15,000 condoms, which will be distributed to participants along with lube and commemorative towels. Organizers have implemented a new rule: attendees can no longer bypass the entry line by donating linens. "We are NOT accepting sheet donations this year, sorry! This also means there will be no line skipping opportunities," the organizers announced.
Orgy Dome Rules and Operations
Participants must be at least 18 years old and present identification. They are required to be sober and must complete a pre-orgy seminar covering consent and etiquette. The camp enforces a policy that attendees must either come with a partner or as part of a group, a rule organizer "Maze" explained is intended to foster an atmosphere for people "playing" rather than seeking new partners. "A lot of our guests, they don’t want to be picked up on by singles," Maze told The Mirror.
The 6,000-square-foot camp includes a 50-foot "open to more" tent where strangers can interact and a smaller "just us" tent designated for couples. Last year's destructive windstorm caused an estimated $20,000 to $30,000 in damages to the Orgy Dome. A series of fundraising campaigns subsequently raised $70,000 to facilitate the camp's rebuilding.
Organizers report that the Orgy Dome is one of Burning Man's most popular events, attracting approximately 10% of all festival attendees annually.
