Bulgarian actress Natalia Dontcheva, who gained international recognition for her role as Julie Derville in the French remake of the television series "Doc Martin," has died at the age of 56. Her agent confirmed her passing on Saturday, stating that she died following a short illness.
Dontcheva was known for her "precision of performances" and "dedication to her craft," according to a statement released by her agent. Throughout her career, she earned the respect of colleagues, directors, and film crews. She also played Madame de Joncquières in "Lady J" and Elena in "Sashinka."
Her stepson, Hugo Sélignac, shared a tribute on Instagram, reflecting on his relationship with Dontcheva, who was the partner of his father, Arnaud Selignac, for 25 years. Sélignac described Dontcheva as a "truly beautiful person" whom he loved deeply, and thanked her for nurturing their family bond and instilling confidence in him. He also acknowledged her care for his children and her support for his father over their quarter-century together.
"We had our ups and downs, but we were a family—and on the Selignac side, you were our rock," Sélignac wrote. "The only promise I can make you today is that I will do everything to keep alive what you fought so hard to sustain."
He concluded his tribute by noting that after a ten-year battle, Dontcheva could finally rest. The actress had reportedly been ill for some time.
