Bucks Fizz stars Cheryl Baker and Bobby G have encountered each other at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, marking a reunion 15 years after a public feud. The two artists, both 72, posed for a photograph that was subsequently shared on the official Facebook page for The Fizz, the group Baker currently performs with.
The Facebook post noted the unexpected nature of the meeting, captioning the image: "Well this is one you didn't think you'd ever see! How lovely Cheryl saw Bobby today!"
The rift between Baker and Bobby G originated from a legal battle in 2011. Bobby G won a court case that prohibited his former bandmates from performing under the name The Original Bucks Fizz. The ruling, which followed a lengthy legal dispute, was based on the grounds that Bobby G's wife, Heidi Manton, who was also part of his group, owned the Bucks Fizz trademark, and the use of "The Original Bucks Fizz" infringed upon it. At the time, the remaining band members expressed significant disappointment.
In a 2016 interview, Bobby G commented on the fallout, stating that his former bandmates were "very bitter" and that the outcome of the case, which reportedly cost them considerable money and required them to pay him, led to them ceasing communication.
Bucks Fizz achieved significant success, notably winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with their distinctive performance. However, the band's history has also been marked by personal tragedies and lineup changes. In 1984, a serious bus crash left Cheryl Baker with a broken spine and bandmate Mike Nolan in a coma, leading to long-term health issues for Nolan. The group disbanded in 1985 after Jay Aston departed. Subsequent years saw various members join and leave, including Shelley Preston and David Van Day.
Jay Aston, Cheryl Baker, and Mike Nolan later reunited to form the trio The Fizz. Aston has previously spoken about the financial difficulties she faced after her legal disputes with the band, describing periods of being unemployed and living in a bedsit.
