Brooks Nader has offered a preview of her role in the upcoming "Baywatch" reboot, recently photographed in the series' signature red bathing suit while filming beach scenes.
Nader, 29, is set to portray Selene, a captain of the Zuma beach lifeguards. The reboot, also starring Stephen Amell, Shay Mitchell, and Hassie Harrison, is scheduled for release on Fox in January 2027. Fox initially announced Nader's casting in March, with the actress subsequently confirming the news on social media. She shared images from the set, alongside childhood photos, including one where she wore a shirt with "movie star" printed on it.
Nader's casting, alongside other influencers such as TikTok personality Noah Beck and gymnast Livvy Dunne, has drawn criticism from some social media users who have labeled the casting as "influencer casting, not acting" and described the project as a "JOKE" with an "awful cast."
Responding to the critiques, Nader told the Daily Mail that the entertainment landscape has evolved. "I think that the times are different, and everyone is so multi-hyphenate now. And you can be both an actor and an influencer and have influence," she stated. Nader highlighted the power of modern social media platforms, contrasting them with the pre-internet era of the original show. "We now have platforms. I think … during the ’90s, you didn’t have social media. You didn’t have Instagram or TikTok. And, so, people could use their voice now, and I think as long as they’re using it for good … I think that … it’ll bring a vibe to the show."
The original "Baywatch" series ran for 11 seasons from 1989 to 2001, propelling stars like Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra to fame. Electra, who joined the show in its eighth season, previously shared that she was homeless in Los Angeles before her career breakthrough, underscoring the transformative nature of the series for its cast members.
