Brittany Cartwright, the Vanderpump Rules alum, quit Fox's Special Forces: World's Toughest Test during its Season 4 premiere on Thursday, leaving after just one day. In the closing moments of the episode, Cartwright told viewers, 'I knew I was gonna be first. I f—king knew it. So embarrassing,' as she explained she had joined the high-intensity competition to prove haters wrong after a challenging year.
Cartwright said she had been through so much this year and cited her divorce from estranged husband Jax Taylor. She said he had been messaging her, writing, 'You're not gonna make it far,' before she arrived, and she added, 'People like that, I want to prove wrong.'
During the early challenges, she navigated muddy water and rappelled from a helicopter, despite being terrified of heights. She later received a fail on the helicopter task for not jumping from the aircraft correctly. The bigger issue came when she and her team were tasked with carrying large barrels of supplies to base camp. 'I’m, like, dying, sorry. I can’t. I don’t think I can make it,' she told Directing Staff trainer Jovon 'Q' Quarles. 'I’m not the fittest I’ve ever been in my life right now, that’s for sure. But, chasing around my 4-year-old has been very helpful,' she added, referencing her son Cruz. After their poor performance, the team was punished with a run back to camp. A few yards into the run, Cartwright began slowing down and told DS Q she feared she was having a panic attack. 'I’m gonna have a panic attack,' she said. 'I feel like I’m gonna pass out, I’m sorry. I can’t move.' DS Q then pressed her to decide whether to stay or leave, and Cartwright announced her departure.
Her exit comes as she seeks personal healing after finishing a difficult year and as she continues to divorce from Jax Taylor. The show, which pairs celebrities with drill instructors and challenges them to endure demanding physical and mental tasks, has aired four episodes so far in Season 4 and is expected to continue to feature dramatic moments as contestants press through the course.
Cartwright's departure on Day 1 adds to a season that has already seen several contestants abandon the course early, illustrating the strain of the format on even well-known reality stars.
