As many as one in ten Britons are putting up their Christmas decorations this week, according to a recent survey. This trend, dubbed 'Christmas-maxxing' by Celebrations chocolates, the company that commissioned the poll of 2,000 adults, reflects a desire to extend the festive season beyond the traditional December countdown.
The survey indicates that four in ten people feel the traditional 24-day period is too short for Christmas celebrations. Consequently, 17 percent of Britons begin to feel festive immediately after Halloween decorations are stored away. More than a quarter have already started dusting off their holiday ornaments and listening to Christmas music, while 22 percent plan to watch festive films.
To prolong the holiday spirit, 21 percent of people purchase new decorations, 20 percent put up their Christmas tree a month early, and 18 percent engage in present shopping throughout the year. Others are pulling out their Christmas pajamas.
Presenter Amanda Holden shared her early festive enthusiasm on Instagram, posting pictures of her elaborate decorations. She expressed that putting up decorations evokes childhood excitement and a belief in the magic of Christmas.
St Pancras International station has also joined the early festivities by unveiling an 11-meter Christmas tree monument. This installation, a collaboration with the German tourist board, features a three-tiered wooden structure with 24 'curiosity windows' highlighting various festive traditions.
