Britney Spears on Tuesday addressed online criticism of a video that showed dog feces on the floor of her home, telling followers she was tired of being judged.
"Shame on those who judged my home in my pajamas !!!" the 43-year-old singer wrote in the caption of an Instagram post. She also shared a separate photo of Justin Bieber and his son, adding, "I’m in love with this picture !!! So so beautiful !!!"
A clip Spears originally posted on Aug. 18 showed the singer setting up a ring light and singing while a dog walked through a living area where feces was visible on the floor. At the time of the original post, Spears told followers she was in the middle of "cleaning [her] house like no tomorrow." The resurfaced video has drawn renewed attention and online commentary.
People close to Spears have expressed concern about her well-being in recent weeks, according to reports. The Daily Mail quoted an unnamed insider saying Spears — who has a documented history of mental-health issues and has spent time in treatment facilities — was "having an episode right now" and that her home was "a mess." The source said some acquaintances believe she is not functioning "like an adult would function."
Another person reportedly told the outlet that while loved ones are monitoring Spears, they do not plan to stage an intervention. "Those close to her have seen this over and over again, and though it is monitored, they aren’t going to make any type of intervention," the source said.
Page Six noted that an attempted intervention in February 2023, more than a year after Spears’ conservatorship ended, did not proceed as planned. At that time, insiders told Page Six the effort had become contentious and ultimately fell apart amid disagreement within her inner circle.
Spears rose to fame as a teenager in the late 1990s and became one of pop music's best-selling artists. Her conservatorship, which controlled many aspects of her personal and financial life, drew widespread attention until it was terminated in 2021. Since then, public scrutiny of her social media posts and personal life has continued.
In responding on Instagram this week, Spears did not directly address reports of concern from acquaintances, but she emphasized her objection to public judgment of her home. Her posts have repeatedly drawn commentary from fans and critics alike, prompting ongoing debate about privacy and public observation of celebrities' personal lives.
Representatives for Spears did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Media outlets that reported the concerns cited unnamed sources close to the singer.
