A bride-to-be canceled her fiancé’s Las Vegas bachelor trip after discovering he used $3,000 she had sent for a wedding venue deposit to book the getaway, according to a post she made on Reddit’s "Am I the Jerk?" forum.

The 28-year-old woman said she had transferred the $3,000 after months of saving so the couple could secure their preferred venue. She later learned her fiancé had used that money, along with some of his own, to pay for a Las Vegas trip with friends. When she confronted him, he told her, "Don’t worry, babe, I’ll win it back at the tables," she wrote. Because her credit card was tied to the reservation, she said she was able to cancel the booking and told him if he wanted to gamble he should do so with his own funds.

The disagreement escalated into a heated argument. The woman said the fiancé accused her of embarrassing him in front of his friends and said she had "ruined the best weekend of his life." The future mother-in-law reportedly called to defend him, saying "boys will be boys," the Reddit post said.

The woman said she did not regret canceling the trip but posted to ask whether she had overreacted after some friends criticized her decision. Reddit users overwhelmingly sided with her, with many urging her to reconsider the relationship. One commenter wrote, "Don't marry that man," while others questioned his understanding of gambling odds and advised the woman to protect herself financially if she proceeds with the marriage.

A licensed marriage and family therapist, Greg Gomez, told Fox News Digital that the woman was justified in canceling the trip and called misuse of money a significant red flag. "Money is a serious issue of conflict for many couples," he said. He suggested premarital therapy and frank conversations about savings, debt and financial boundaries before moving forward.

A retired minister writing in the thread also emphasized the importance of discussing money before marriage, saying couples he worked with always addressed financial planning and decision-making.

The episode drew attention amid ongoing scrutiny of Las Vegas costs for visitors. Derek Stevens, owner and CEO of casinos and resorts in Las Vegas, has said the city may be "outpricing itself" as dining habits change and tourism patterns shift, with some visitors complaining about high food prices. While that broader economic discussion does not address the couple’s dispute, it provides context for public conversations about the cost of trips to the city.

The Reddit poster said Fox News Digital had been contacted for additional comment; a representative for the couple did not respond to requests for immediate comment. Experts and many online respondents urged the woman to use the episode as an opportunity to insist on clearer financial boundaries and to consider whether she wants a partner who would use joint savings or earmarked funds without consent.
