Brett Goldstein, the actor known for his portrayal of Roy Kent in the Apple TV+ series "Ted Lasso," recently shared details about his physical and mental health journey in an interview with Men's Health. Goldstein, 46, appeared shirtless on the cover of the magazine, showcasing his physique. He also spoke candidly about his past struggles with depression.

Goldstein described how, during periods of depression, he was advised by a therapist to practice daily gratitude. Initially, he found it difficult to identify things to be thankful for, but he persevered by starting with small observations, such as "The sun was up." Over time, this practice helped him retrain his brain to seek out the positive aspects of his life.

"By day 30 of doing that, you've started training your brain to look for the positive, and I could write a list of 100 things," Goldstein told the publication. "I'm the luckiest guy in the world! Everything's f**king amazing!" He acknowledged that the practice is not always easy and that he still experiences difficult days, but emphasized that gratitude remains a valuable tool.

Goldstein's career predates his breakout role in "Ted Lasso." He engaged in stand-up comedy and acting for many years, with previous roles in "Derek," "Drifters," and "Uncle," as well as co-writing and starring in the film "SuperBob." His role as the gruff AFC Richmond coach brought him widespread recognition, earning him a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2021.

While "Ted Lasso" was initially announced to conclude after its third season, it has since been renewed for a fourth. Goldstein expressed his belief that the world created for the show offered potential for further exploration, stating, "It seemed crazy not to go back and do more." He explained that the expansion of the show's universe allows for new storytelling while retaining beloved characters.

Originally hired as a writer for "Ted Lasso," Goldstein eventually took on the role of Roy Kent after submitting an unsolicited audition tape. He recalled sending the tape to executive producer Bill Lawrence with the caveat that Lawrence could disregard it if it was embarrassing. Lawrence's positive reaction led to Goldstein being cast.

Beyond "Ted Lasso," Goldstein co-created the science fiction series "Soulmates" and signed a multi-year deal with Warner Bros. Television. He also made an appearance as Hercules in a mid-credits scene in "Thor: Love and Thunder." Recently, he starred opposite Jennifer Lopez in the Netflix comedy "Office Romance."

Goldstein's personal life includes a past relationship with comedian Beth Rylance, which he confirmed during his 2021 Emmy acceptance speech. Reports later suggested a split after he joined the "Thor" franchise.
