AFL personality Brendan Fevola has undergone a significant weight loss transformation in recent years, shedding a substantial amount of kilograms from his former playing weight of 128 kilos.

Fevola, 45, recently showcased his slimmer physique in videos shared by his radio show, "Fifi, Fev and Nick." The footage showed the former Carlton footballer with a toned and lean appearance, a stark contrast to his previous weight.

His journey to a healthier lifestyle began after his retirement from professional football. Fevola admitted that after hanging up his boots, he stopped exercising and his calorie intake caught up with him.

"I haven't been to the gym in 13 years," Fevola told Australian Men's Health. "After I retired, I just didn't see the point because I had no reason to keep fit. Eating as much as I used to was fine when I was playing footy, because I burnt a lot of it off with exercise. But after I started not exercising as much, it all stacked up."

Fevola initially struggled with his weight, serving as a Jenny Craig ambassador in 2017, but found sustainable success with the keto diet. He adopted a keto lifestyle after a 30-day challenge with Keto Australia.

Once overweight and loading up on carbs, the former Carlton footballer has shed significant weight after adopting a keto diet

The keto diet, characterized by being low-carbohydrate and high-fat, aims to induce ketosis, a metabolic state where the body burns fat for fuel, aiding weight loss. Fevola reported losing 14.5 kilograms in a single month without any exercise in 2024.

He also noted that his early morning radio schedule had previously led him to consume more carb-heavy foods. "The breakfast hours I work mean I'm tired at the wrong times, and before I was just eating constant carbs and not getting the good stuff to keep me awake," he said. However, he acknowledged that dietary choices are paramount, regardless of work hours.

Fevola has expressed surprise at the extent of his transformation, remarking that people now comment on his significantly altered appearance. "I literally walk down the street now and people are like, 'Is that Fev?', because I'm fading away," he said.
