Bonnie Tyler, the iconic voice behind hits like "Total Eclipse of the Heart," expressed that she felt "fit enough" to continue performing just weeks before her hospitalization and subsequent unexpected death. Tyler passed away on July 8 at the age of 75.
In an interview with Hello! published in March, Tyler shared her active routine. "I'm fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I'm really enjoying doing the shows," she stated. "I'm still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you've got your health, you've got everything."
Maintaining Health and Fitness
Tyler attributed her fitness to daily Pilates sessions, often completing a 20-minute routine even while staying in hotel rooms. She also revealed that she had undergone a successful surgical procedure to address knee issues, describing them as "washouts" that proved very effective. "Hopefully that will last for a long time," she said.
Health Complications and Passing
The singer's March interview came five months before her death. A spokesperson confirmed her passing, stating, "Bonnie's family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in [a] hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for."
Prior to her death, Tyler experienced significant health challenges. In April, she was hospitalized due to intense abdominal pain, which was later revealed to be caused by a serious tear in her bowel. This led to emergency surgery in Portugal.
In May, she was placed in a medically induced coma. Her team announced in June that she had emerged from the coma, but noted that the "recovery process is slow." At that time, all of her scheduled concerts through August were canceled, and her management expressed gratitude for the "tremendous sympathy and support" from fans worldwide.
Tyler is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Sullivan.
