A deer named Cheryl, the unusual pet of Australian football legend Billy Slater and his wife Nicole, has garnered significant international attention, amassing over 70 million views across social media platforms.

Nicole Slater frequently shares videos of Cheryl on her Instagram account, showcasing the deer playing and interacting with the family's other animals. These posts have attracted a wide audience, including notable figures such as Paris Hilton and Ariana Grande. Hilton has previously commented on a video of Cheryl with a heart-eyes emoji.

One recent post highlighted Cheryl adorned in Queensland's maroon color in anticipation of the State of Origin, further engaging fans. The accompanying caption celebrated Cheryl's fan club, mentioning Paris Hilton, Rick Veitch, and Ariana Grande among the viewers.

Origin of Cheryl the Deer

Nicole Slater explained on the radio program 774 Melbourne that Cheryl came into their lives after her husband inquired about a deer at a farm where they were breeding a quarter horse. The family had been on a waiting list for two and a half years before acquiring Cheryl. Billy Slater undertook a 14-hour round trip with their daughter to bring the young deer home.

The Slaters' farm is home to a variety of animals, including horses, guinea pigs, and pheasants, reflecting Nicole's documented love for animals, which is also evident in her artwork. "We do collect a lot of animals, we have rescued a lot of animals," Nicole stated, detailing their diverse animal collection.

Cheryl's Privileged Life on the Farm

Despite a house rule prohibiting animals indoors, Cheryl is the sole exception. She is permitted to enter the house freely and often rests on the couch. This special treatment contrasts with the family's dogs, who adhere to the boundary at the door. "She goes on the couch whenever she likes, she just does whatever she wants and it's the funniest thing," Nicole remarked about Cheryl's unique status within the household.

Cheryl's popularity has grown significantly, transitioning from a beloved farm animal to an online phenomenon with a dedicated international following.
