The second season of the Netflix series 'Department Q' has commenced filming in Edinburgh, Scotland. Production began in June and is scheduled to continue through October.

Visitors to the FirstStage Studios in Edinburgh have been given a behind-the-scenes look at the production. The attention to detail on set is a key element in bringing the world of Jussi Adler-Olsen's novels to the screen. Maverick detective Carl Morck's New Town flat has been recreated with meticulous care, featuring items such as half-full jam jars and takeaway menus on the fridge, designed to accommodate the extensive film crew and equipment.

Department Q's Base of Operations

The series' titular Department Q, where Morck and his team are based, is depicted in the basement of a fictional police station. This area, an abandoned shower quarter, is characterized by dimly lit, steep staircases and functional, albeit grim, shower and toilet facilities. The aesthetic aims to reflect the gritty nature of the cases the department handles.

The largest set is the interior of the police headquarters, designed as an open-plan office. Each desk is personalized with effects belonging to the fictional officers, and boards display photographs and details related to ongoing cases, contributing to the immersive environment.
