Singer Bebe Rexha recently addressed social media users who have commented on her body, particularly her breasts, following weight gain. In a series of posts on X, formerly Twitter, the 37-year-old artist expressed frustration with what she described as unwanted attention from "straight men."
"I don’t know what to do with my boobies. They just got so massive and I hate the straight men in my comments who only come for that but, then again, a girl still wanna dress sexy," Rexha wrote on Sunday. She later suggested the need for an app catering to "girls and gays," and added, "I feel like when girls with curvy bodies wear something tight we automatically look sl***y."
When a fan inquired if her weight gain was due to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), Rexha confirmed that the condition, along with "eating too much bread," contributed to the changes. PCOS is recognized by the World Health Organization as a chronic metabolic condition linked to an increased risk of weight gain.
This is not the first time Rexha has spoken publicly about her fluctuating weight. In a 2023 Instagram post, she declared, "Yes, I'm in my fat era and what?" During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show around the same time, she discussed the scrutiny she faced.
"Listen, we're in the public eye, so that's bound to happen," she told host Jennifer Hudson. "I was a lot thinner and I did gain some weight - that comes with the territory. I'm not mad about it because it is true, but when you see things like that, it does mess with you."
Rexha also noted the difficulty of public commentary on weight, stating, "You don't know what somebody's going through, what they're going through in their life, so it kind of is tough. But I feel like we're in 2023 ... we should not be talking about people's weight."
In April 2023, after noticing "Bebe Rexha weight gain" trending on TikTok, she tweeted her discouragement but also thanked her supporters. "I've always struggled with my weight. A bi*** likes to eat. I'm working on myself everyday. Just discouraged a bit right now," she admitted.
More recently, in May, Rexha responded to body-shaming comments directed at her during an appearance at the American Music Awards. In one instance, a user criticized her appearance and suggested she was not on weight-loss medication like Ozempic and should "lay off the Twinkies." Rexha countered these remarks by promoting her new album, "Dirty Blonde," which was set for release on June 12th.
