Eddie Nestor, a longtime presenter for BBC Radio London, has announced he will be taking a break from his show to receive cancer treatment. Nestor shared the news on social media, telling listeners that they might have noticed his reduced on-air presence recently.
Nestor, 62, confirmed he has already begun chemotherapy, describing his medical team as "incredible." He noted that he spent both Father's Day and his birthday in the hospital but expressed hope for recovery, stating, "We're thankful, we're hopeful and as a family, we're looking upward and forward."
He identified his family as his "greatest source of strength" and expressed gratitude to his BBC colleagues for their support. Nestor indicated that his work schedule would be flexible, depending on his health. "I'll work when I'm able, post when I feel like it and spend the rest of the time concentrating on getting stronger," he said.
During Nestor's absence, his show is being covered by Jim Davis and other members of the BBC Radio London team. Sara David, editor of the station, conveyed the collective support of the station and its listeners to Nestor and his family.
Nestor, who was awarded an MBE in 2018 for his charitable work and contributions to radio, has been a fixture at BBC Radio London since 2002. He has also had a career in television, appearing in dramas such as Casualty and Death in Paradise.
