BBC News presenter Nina Warhurst has addressed concerns from viewers regarding the appearance of her eye, stating she is experiencing a "difficult week" and that "the stories affecting children have weighed heavy on all of us."
Warhurst, who anchors BBC News At One, had drawn viewer attention when her left eye appeared swollen during a recent broadcast. She took to Instagram Stories to explain that she sought assistance from a pharmacist for her eye and would be taking a break from wearing makeup for several days to allow it to heal. She reassured concerned viewers that she is experiencing "no pain or discomfort."
Emotional Impact of Reporting
The presenter also shared the emotional impact of reporting on difficult stories, specifically mentioning the tragic death of toddler Preston Davey. "Weeks like this I am proud of the teams at the BBC for listening to the unlistenable in court, allowing families broken hearts to be seen, and their voices to be heard," Warhurst wrote. "Our journalists work hard to get it right, and inevitably sometimes it comes home. Children who suffer should never be forgotten."
She added that she is having a "gentle day" with her own child and plans to offer a prayer for children who have not had the start in life they deserve.
Fans had previously expressed concern on social media platforms like X, with comments including "Is there something seriously not OK with Nina Warhurst?" and "Nina. Is your left eye okay??"
Prior to her current role, Warhurst served as the business correspondent for BBC's Breakfast show and occasionally co-hosted during staff absences. She transitioned to lead presenter on BBC News at One in March 2025. In July of the previous year, she shared the news of her father Chris's passing after a three-year battle with dementia, recounting the precious final moments spent with him and her family.
