Ruby Bhogal, a finalist on The Great British Bake Off in 2018, has announced she is expecting a baby, seven months after experiencing a miscarriage.
Bhogal, 36, shared the news on social media, posting photos of her husband James cradling her baby bump. She described the past year as "crazy," detailing a series of personal events including their marriage, an eye infection, contracting E. coli, a bout of sickness on a boat, a sprained ankle, and being hit in the eye with a tennis ball. This was followed by a pregnancy and a missed miscarriage.
"We then took in a little pup looking for a home. And immediately after, we finally found the rainbow we've been hoping for," Bhogal wrote, adding that she is feeling "lucky, grateful and blessed." She also noted experiencing "intense debilitating nausea" for three months and that "Baby Stewart [is] coming December 2026."
In January, Bhogal revealed she had suffered a miscarriage just months into her pregnancy. She explained at the time that she and her husband had discovered they were pregnant during their second honeymoon in Mexico in November, but lost the baby before Christmas. Bhogal had previously been the one to hold back on starting a family, stating her husband had been "broody for years."
She shared her miscarriage news hoping it would help her come to terms with her grief and to make others experiencing similar losses feel less alone. "I didn't know how to come back on here and just start posting recipes and content like everything was ok," she said in January, noting she had spent weeks seeking out a community of people going through the same experience.
Bhogal and BBC presenter James Stewart, known for his work on Morning Live, Blue Peter, and CBBC, were married last summer. Their initial married life was marked by illness and injury during their first honeymoon.
This announcement follows recent news from Junior Bake Off host Ravneet Gill, who also revealed she is pregnant with her second child. Gill shared her news wearing her chef's whites, writing, "This wasn't on the prep list… but here we are. yes chef, I'm pregnant."
Bhogal congratulated Gill on her pregnancy announcement at the time. Ravneet Gill married chef Mattie Taiano in 2022 and they welcomed their first child in 2023.
