Baby Born During Harry Potter Screening Gets 'Cineworld' on Birth Certificate
A mother gave birth to her daughter in a cinema during a screening of 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone', and the location of the birth was later recorded on the baby's birth certificate.
A baby girl has been named 'Cineworld' on her birth certificate after her mother gave birth in the middle of a screening of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" at a cinema in Broughton, Flintshire.
Molly Connah, 32, was a day overdue when she attended the showing with her nine-year-old son, Alfie, and her parents. Approximately 40 to 45 minutes into the film, Ms. Connah began experiencing labor pains.
Cinema staff, including manager Michelle McClean and team leader Leah Prytherch, assisted Ms. Connah. They called emergency services and used towels and sheets to provide privacy as she delivered her daughter, Elsie Lamb, at 4:57 p.m.
As no medical professionals were present at the time of birth, Ms. Connah's mother received the newborn. A rapid response paramedic arrived shortly after, followed by two ambulances.
Ms. Connah's partner, Scott, who was asleep ahead of a night shift, arrived moments after their daughter was born. Ms. Connah described the family as being in "complete utter shock" over the unexpected arrival.
When registering Elsie's birth, Ms. Connah stated the location as "Cineworld in Broughton," which was subsequently recorded on the birth certificate.
She praised the cinema and Starbucks staff for their assistance, noting how they "shielded me with towels and sheets so no one could see."
Ms. Connah had a midwife appointment for a sweep earlier that afternoon before heading to the cinema. She recalled feeling that something was not right during the film's early scenes, featuring Hagrid and Harry purchasing school supplies.
Following the birth, Ms. Connah and Elsie were taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Ms. Connah required stitches due to the rapid birth. Both mother and baby are reported to be doing well, with Elsie described as a "really contented baby."
Alfie has reportedly adjusted well to becoming a big brother, assisting with feeding and changing.
The family later returned to the Cineworld location to thank the staff with gifts and a card. They also received cinema passes to allow them to finish watching the film they missed.
