Ashley Tisdale is set to executive produce a new half-hour comedy series in development at Netflix, titled "Toxic Moms." The show is inspired by Tisdale's personal experiences with a "toxic" group of friends.

The series will center on a new mother who becomes entangled with a clique of affluent mothers. However, the group's darker nature soon emerges, prompting the protagonist to question how far one might go for a sense of community during the isolation of motherhood.

Tisdale is collaborating on the project with comedian Sabrina Jalees and Ali Wong. Jalees, who has writing credits for "Mating Season" and "Search Party," may also direct if the show receives a series order.

Tisdale confirmed the development on Instagram, sharing a screenshot of a Deadline article and posting, "I guess we all can be a little toxic." Representatives for Netflix did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The premise draws directly from Tisdale's own life. In early 2026, the actress publicly detailed her estrangement from a former friend group, which internet sleuths identified as including figures like Mandy Moore, Hilary Duff, and Meghan Trainor. In an essay for The Cut, Tisdale wrote that she felt excluded by the group, leading her to believe she wasn't "cool enough."

Tisdale eventually decided to leave the clique, sending a text message that read, "This is too high school for me and I don't want to take part in it anymore." Following her essay, several members of the group, including Duff's husband Matthew Koma, reportedly made indirect criticisms of Tisdale online.

Sources close to the situation suggested to Page Six that the friendship breakup stemmed from "a myriad" of issues, not a single cause. One source described Tisdale as "insufferable," indicating the falling out had been anticipated.

While various online theories circulated regarding the group's fracture, including speculation about Tisdale's political views after a comment she made about Charlie Kirk, an insider stated in January that the reasons were multifaceted.
