Ariana Grande plans to take a break from public appearances after concluding her current world tour next month, according to a representative.
This decision comes as the 33-year-old singer faces what her representative described as "endless, ongoing public scrutiny." The singer will no longer participate in a planned revival of Stephen Sondheim's musical "Sunday in the Park with George" in London in 2027. A representative for Empire Street Productions confirmed Grande's withdrawal, stating they have "complete understanding and support" for her decision.
The scrutiny surrounding Grande's public image and physical appearance has intensified in recent years, particularly following the release of her latest album, "Eternal Sunshine," and its promotional materials. A music video for her single "Petal" from the album depicts a character facing criticism about her appearance, ranging from being told she "should get some work done" to having "too much work done."
Grande's representative emphasized that she is performing her current "Eternal Sunshine" tour, which involves a physically demanding show, "healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night." The final date of the tour is scheduled for September 1 in London.
Grande was set to star alongside "Wicked" co-star Jonathan Bailey in the London production of "Sunday in the Park with George." A replacement for her role in the West End revival has not yet been announced. The musical's production company stated they wish Grande "nothing but the best."
