Argos has unveiled its annual list of the 20 toys predicted to be the most sought-after this Christmas. The retailer's predictions span a range of categories, from classic brands to those inspired by current entertainment trends.
Among the anticipated bestsellers are K-Pop Demon Hunters singing dolls, a nod to the popular movie franchise. Also featured is a large inflatable dinosaur tied to the Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie, and a plush Bullseye character from Toy Story 5. These selections highlight the influence of media on children's toy preferences.
Nostalgia plays a significant role in the list, with a retro-style vinyl record player and a £150 Lego set inspired by the classic 1980s Donkey Kong arcade game. These items cater to a desire for classic play experiences, potentially bridging generational gaps.
Interactive toys also feature prominently. The list includes a Peppa Pig figure designed to engage children in imaginative play, reacting to instructions with over 75 sounds and phrases. Another example is a VTech Kidi 12-In-1 Guitar Superstar, designed with touch-sensitive strings and light-up buttons for aspiring musicians. A toy that allows children to repeatedly 'hatch' a prehistoric shark egg by adding water is also highlighted for its interactive nature.
"The best interactive toys are all about instant fun and encouraging kids to dive right in," said Chantal Pearce, head of toy buying at Argos. "From movie magic and retro nostalgia to screen-free storytellers and hands-on crafting, we've curated a range that inspires imagination, supports children’s development and encourages creativity through play."
Other notable items include a Hot Wheels City Ultimate T-Rex Garage, a Chad Valley Alfie And Jo Wooden Train Set, and the Flutter Monster, a plush toy designed to help children express their feelings. The list aims to offer a diverse selection that encourages imaginative play and creativity, according to Pearce.
