Anya Taylor-Joy stars as a con artist in a desperate situation in the new Apple TV+ heist thriller, "Lucky," which premiered with two episodes on July 15. The series adapts Marissa Stapley’s 2021 best-selling novel.
In the role of Luciana “Lucky” Armstrong, Taylor-Joy combines the physicality she displayed as Furiosa, the intellectual sharpness from her character in "The Queen's Gambit," and the unique intensity that marked her performance in "The Witch." Lucky and her husband, Cary (Drew Starkey), are second-generation criminals who have attempted to leave their past behind. They execute what is intended to be their final heist, but as is often the case with such plans, it goes awry.
While celebrating in Las Vegas with intentions to disappear into anonymity the following morning, Lucky awakens alone and disoriented in her hotel room. Cary and the stolen money are gone. She finds herself pursued not only by a determined FBI agent, Billie Rand (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor), but also by Priscilla, a crime boss portrayed by Annette Bening with a chilling composure. Lucky's only confidant, her father John (Timothy Olyphant), a fellow grifter, is currently incarcerated.
