Actor Anthony Michael Hall attributes his 51-year career in Hollywood to having "thick skin" and a persistent work ethic. Hall, known for his roles in seminal 1980s films, shared his perspective on surviving in the entertainment industry during a recent interview.
"You have to have a thick-skin, and just be game and just wanting to work with the best people you can," Hall told Fox News Digital. "Just being persistent and tenacious. And thank God I was born with a hard head. But you have to have a thick-skin."
He added that a deep love for the craft is also essential. "You have to really want and love what you do. So I think that's it."
Hall's career began in the early 1980s, and he has since appeared in numerous films and television shows. His reflections on longevity in Hollywood include maintaining humility and focus.
"Stay humble, stay focused, keep your eyes on the road, and just keep moving ahead somehow," Hall advised. "There's no guarantees of anything in this business, and it's a tough business, but it's really great business, so I'm very fortunate."
New Competition Series
Hall is currently participating in FOX's new celebrity competition series, "Nation's Dumbest," hosted by Jack Whitehall. The show features 12 celebrities competing in a series of academic-themed challenges with a comedic twist. Unlike typical competition shows, the aim is to be eliminated, with the best-performing contestant each week graduating from the competition.
Hall noted parallels between his experience on "The Breakfast Club" and the new series, particularly the dynamic of being brought together with a group of people. "Do you know what, there was some parallels for sure. We all got thrown together. We're all stuck, we couldn't really go anywhere. And honestly, we all really got along," he said.
"Nation's Dumbest" premiered on July 15 on FOX and is available for streaming on Hulu the following day. The inaugural cast includes a diverse group of celebrities such as Ice-T, Jon Heder, Hilaria Baldwin, Carmen Electra, and Dr. Drew Pinsky, among others.
