Portiragnes-Plage, France – The skies above Portiragnes-Plage were alive with color and creativity this past weekend as the Festival du Vent celebrated its 11th anniversary. Dozens of kite enthusiasts gathered on the Occitanie region's coast to showcase their intricate designs, transforming the beach into a vibrant spectacle.
The festival featured a wide array of kites, including whimsical teddy bears, fantastical spaceships, and marine life like manta rays and a large blue whale. Alongside these airborne creations, a land-based "heroes village" displayed towering inflatables of popular characters such as Spiderman, Batman, Captain America, and Deadpool, much to the delight of younger attendees.
A competition recognized kite flyers for their technical skill, creativity, and mastery of the craft. Festivalgoers also participated in sand sculpting, creating impressive castles and creatures along the shoreline. A display of smaller, rotating kites formed a "wind garden."
The event, which celebrated the last days of summer sunshine, also included acrobatic performances, creative workshops, and water sports. Organizers described the synchronized kite display as "a magnificent show where kites dance together over the beach of Portiragnes."
