Actress Anne Hathaway revealed on "Late Night With Seth Meyers" that her third pregnancy with husband Adam Shulman was a "buzzer beater," a term she used to describe the unexpected nature of their family's expansion. Hathaway, 43, and Shulman, 45, a jewelry designer, were "shocked it worked" but acknowledged they "knew what [they] were doing" when conceiving their third child.
Hathaway further elaborated on the surprise during the conversation with host Seth Meyers, stating, "We were so shocked it worked. We knew… but we were so shocked it went this way." She likened the new arrival to a "buzzer beater," prompting Meyers to respond with enthusiasm about the timely conception.
Meyers, a father of three, offered Hathaway advice on managing a growing family, suggesting that parents can do little more than observe as children grow. Hathaway responded positively, embracing the idea of adding a "new cast member" to their family.
News of Hathaway's pregnancy first emerged last month when she debuted her baby bump during a trip to St. Tropez. She later confirmed the news on Instagram with the caption, "Baby, I'm yours." While Hathaway kept her pregnancy private during the "Devil Wears Prada 2" press tour in June, she has openly displayed her bump while promoting her latest project, "Odyssey."

Hathaway and Shulman, who married in 2012, are already parents to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6. The actress has previously spoken about her fertility struggles, describing the experience as "painful and very isolating" and "full of self-doubt."
In a 2019 interview with the Associated Press, Hathaway reflected on the complexities of starting a family, noting that for many, the journey is "more complicated" than simply wishing for a child. She highlighted that while pregnancy is often portrayed as a happy time, it is only one part of a broader story for many individuals trying to conceive.
Hathaway and Shulman have been a couple since 2008.
