Anna Wintour and Andrew Bolton Attend Thom Browne Show Amid Met Gala Fallout

Anna Wintour, the creative director of Condé Nast, and Andrew Bolton, the Metropolitan Museum of Art's costume institute curator, were seen together at the Thom Browne Spring/Summer 2027 fashion show at The Shed in Hudson Yards. Their joint appearance at New York Fashion Week comes as the controversy surrounding a planned Met Gala exhibition honoring designer John Galliano continues.

Wintour and Bolton were seated next to each other at the event, a proximity that a source described as "brave," given the continued anger from museum trustees over the proposed Galliano tribute. The Met Gala, typically held on the first Monday in May, faced significant backlash after Wintour reportedly championed the idea of celebrating Galliano. Galliano, a former designer for Dior and Givenchy, has a history of antisemitic remarks, including expressions of admiration for Adolf Hitler.

The backlash from museum donors, Jewish leaders, and other stakeholders led to demands for the honor to be rescinded. Galliano subsequently withdrew from the planned exhibition. The New York Times had reported that Wintour, Galliano, and Bolton had engaged in discussions with rabbis and Jewish leaders over the course of a year to address potential issues and seek their approval for the event.

Bolton had previously told The New York Times that he had considered a Galliano exhibition since 2010, but had intensified planning in 2024. He outlined measures being considered to address the "rupture" caused by Galliano's past behavior.

With Galliano no longer involved, Wintour and Bolton are expected to develop an alternative plan for the Met Gala, or the event may face cancellation. The Thom Browne show also drew other notable attendees, including Demi Moore, Liev Schreiber, Naomi Watts, Britt Lower, Adam Scott, and Penn Badgley.
