Anna Faris has shared that she quit drinking after identifying a correlation between alcohol and depression, describing it as a step to avoid "self-sabotage."
During an appearance on the "Dear Chelsea" podcast, Faris told host Chelsea Handler that in the past year, she began to feel a sense of dissatisfaction with her career and movie roles. She noted that while people recognized her, they often did so with a smile, recalling "something f---ing stupid" she had done on screen.
Handler then brought up Faris's sobriety, suggesting it might have contributed to her renewed perspective. Faris confirmed that she had "stopped drinking" and stated that one of the benefits of sobriety has been a shift in her outlook.
"Turns out there’s a correlation between drinking and depression for me for sure. I had to take a step back to not self-sabotage," Faris said. She also mentioned that hormone patches have been beneficial for her mental health, though she did not elaborate further on her sobriety journey.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Faris discussed her son Jack's religious beliefs. Her 14-year-old son has asked her to accept Jesus Christ as her savior. Faris, who did not grow up with religion, told him she would consider it, but it would require extensive conversations.
Faris and her ex-husband, actor Chris Pratt, share Jack, who was born nine weeks premature in August 2012. Faris described her son as strong, which enables them to have deeper discussions on various topics, including faith and societal issues.
