Andrew Garfield, 43, has expressed a strong desire to have children and start a family, admitting he is not entirely proud of being childless at his age. The actor shared these personal reflections during an appearance on the SmartLess podcast, noting that the interview was recorded prior to his recent birthday.

Garfield, who has been in a relationship with actress Monica Barbaro since early 2025, with their romance confirmed at Wimbledon last summer, discussed his feelings about fatherhood. "I'm 42 and I'm childless and I'm not entirely proud of that," he stated on the podcast. "Like, I would love I would love to have kids. I would love to start a family."

These personal sentiments emerged as Garfield reflected on his role in the film The Magic Faraway Tree, which explores the impact of technology and screens on children. He clarified that the film is not anti-technology but rather encourages awareness of its potential downsides. "It's about, you know, getting kids back in touch with themselves, with each other, with nature, with their own nature, with the family unit, with community," he said.

In recent promotional efforts for his upcoming historical film The Uprising, which depicts the 1381 Peasants' Revolt in England, Garfield also made comments that drew public attention. When asked about the audience's takeaway from The Uprising, he said, "I hope that if any billionaires watch it, they're scared s***less." This remark led to criticism on social media, with some pointing out his own substantial earnings from blockbuster films.

Garfield's career has included significant roles in major productions. He starred as Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and its 2014 sequel, which together grossed approximately $1.4 billion globally. His other notable films include Never Let Me Go (2010), The Social Network (2010), and Hacksaw Ridge (2016). He is also set to portray OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in the film Artificial, scheduled for release in late 2026.

The Uprising features Garfield as Ploughman, a leader in a rebellion against King Richard II. The film's cast also includes Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, and Jonny Lee Miller.
