Actor Andrew Garfield has spoken candidly about his struggles with social media addiction, describing his screen time notifications as "horrific." In an interview with Variety, Garfield stated that he is "as addicted as anybody" to social media platforms.
"My screen time notifications are horrific to me," Garfield told the outlet. "It’s like, I’ve given all of those hours to nothing." He characterized the experience as "genuinely enraging" and noted that individuals often lack the control they should have over these impulses, suggesting it is by design. "It’s pretty dark when you look at it," he added.
When asked about the content he consumes on his private Instagram account, Garfield revealed it is filled with "weird ceramics" and "lots of Japanese kind of craftspeople."
Garfield's confession adds to a trend of celebrities admitting to having private social media accounts. In the 2020 book “Finding Freedom” by Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie, it was revealed that Prince Harry maintained a secret Instagram account. The authors wrote that Harry created a pseudonym using part of the name of his favorite DJ, DeadMau5, and that "Spikey" came from a Facebook alias he used under the name Spike Wells. "Spike" was a nickname sometimes used for the prince, particularly by Scotland Yard officers.
