Actress Amy Adams has shared an account of a harrowing incident where she and her father assisted a man who had been stabbed in the neck. The story, recounted on the June 22 episode of the Smartless podcast, details how Adams stepped in to help the severely injured individual during a day out in Santa Monica, California.
Adams, accompanied by her father and husband, was leaving a restaurant when they encountered a chaotic scene. "These people were screaming, and a guy was walking, and they were yelling, 'He's dying!' And my husband's like, 'That's blood!'" Adams recalled.
Upon realizing the severity of the situation, Adams and her father immediately moved to assist the man, who had sustained a stab wound to the neck. Adams gathered towels from the vicinity, which her father used to apply pressure to the wound in an effort to control the bleeding. Adams noted that she arrived after the attack had already occurred but theorized that the incident may have stemmed from a dispute after drinks with an acquaintance.
During the ordeal, Adams described maintaining a surprising sense of calm and focused on instructing the injured man. "I'm sitting there somehow going, 'You need to calm your pulse rate. Take a deep breath in,'" she said. "The more you struggle, the faster you're going to bleed. Just lay down. Let's elevate this."
Nearly a year later, Adams encountered the man again at a restaurant. He approached her, referencing the stabbing incident without initially revealing his identity. Adams recognized him and noted that he was emotional and accompanied by his son. "I was like, 'Oh my God, it's you,'" Adams recalled.
The actress shared this experience shortly after the premiere of her new Apple TV+ miniseries, 'Cape Fear,' in which she stars alongside Patrick Wilson and Javier Bardem. The series is an adaptation of the classic story, with previous film versions released in 1962 and 1991.
