The cause of death for Christy Knowings, an actress best known for her role on the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series "All That," has been revealed as cardiac arrest. Knowings died on August 11 at the age of 46.

Her death certificate, obtained by People, lists acute hypoxic respiratory failure and status asthmaticus as the conditions leading to her death, with asthma identified as the underlying cause. Acute hypoxic respiratory failure is a critical condition where the body lacks sufficient oxygen or has excess carbon dioxide. Status asthmaticus refers to a severe asthma attack that does not respond to standard treatments.

A family member had previously told TMZ that Knowings died after an asthma attack on August 7 resulted in brain damage. She was placed on life support, but her family ultimately decided to remove her from life support four days later.

Knowings was a cast member on "All That" for three seasons, from 1997 to 2000, appearing alongside actors like Amanda Bynes, Kenan Thompson, and Nick Cannon. She portrayed various characters on the show, including Jessica and Penny Lane, and often cited her role as Gloria Bankhead in Season 6 as her favorite.

Kenan Thompson paid tribute to Knowings on Instagram, writing, "Man this one hit hard!!! Rest well Christy!!! She was a real one and one of the funniest people out here!!! Gonna miss you buddy!!!"

Knowings, who identified as being from The Bronx and of Native American Afro-Latina heritage, also spoke about the diversity of the "All That" cast in a 2019 interview with Bustle. She noted that her background allowed her to bring a unique perspective to the show.

Her final television role was on "Sesame Street," where she appeared as herself in three episodes between 2008 and 2011 alongside her twin brother, Chris.
