Alex Bozarjian is no longer listed on ABC13 Houston’s news team and has left the station, with no public announcement about her departure, according to a report that surfaced Wednesday.
Bozarjian joined the Houston station in 2023. Her reporter biography was removed from the outlet’s "News Team" page, and local coverage said her exit is among several recent departures at ABC13. The station has not issued a statement about her status.
Bozarjian first gained national attention in December 2019 after a man participating in a race in Savannah, Georgia, slapped her on the backside while she was reporting live. She was 23 at the time. The video of the incident was shared widely online and prompted public scrutiny and media coverage.
Authorities later identified the man as 43-year-old Thomas Callaway, a married youth pastor. Callaway was arrested and charged with misdemeanor sexual battery. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year of probation and fined $1,000 by a Savannah judge.
After the incident, Bozarjian posted the clip online and criticized her assailant, saying his actions had violated and objectified her. She told CBS This Morning that the episode had raised awareness about sexual harassment in the workplace and added that she wanted to reclaim control after the attack. Her account drew widespread social media support as well as some criticism from people who faulted her for being in public while reporting.
Bozarjian is a native of Salem, Massachusetts, and previously worked as a nightside reporter in Detroit before moving to Houston. Local reporting noted her departure follows a series of staff changes at ABC13 in recent months.
Requests for comment on Bozarjian’s exit were sent to ABC13, and outlets covering the development said attempts to reach Bozarjian were also made. The station and Bozarjian had not publicly commented on the circumstances of her departure as of Wednesday.
