Alanis Morissette, 52, has revealed that she uses hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to manage her menopause symptoms. The Grammy-winning artist shared her perspective on aging, stating that she has learned to embrace it with a sense of humor, particularly after relocating from Los Angeles due to its perceived emphasis on maintaining youthful appearances.
Morissette described the menopause as a "truth serum," noting that HRT helps alleviate common symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, and mood swings. In a recent interview, she addressed concerns about discontinuing HRT, responding, "Who's going off it?!"
Discussing her departure from Los Angeles, Morissette explained the pressure to appear younger. "I really had to look at this," she told The Sunday Times Style Magazine. "There was grief of going from the playful maiden into the mom – it's an archetypal head spinner. I'm embracing the older woman with some 'I know too much' humor."
She expressed support for women's choices regarding their well-being, stating, "I'm all about women doing what the f*** they need to feel right. I have zero judgment." Morissette also mentioned undergoing cosmetic procedures like "ouchy facials" for collagen.
The singer, who is married to rapper Mario 'Souleye' Treadway, is mother to three children: Ever, Onyx, and Winter. She recently reflected on her roles as a mother and an artist, telling E! News that "Archetypically, 'Mom' is number one for me and 'writer' is number two."
Morissette has previously spoken about the intense pressures of fame following her 1990s breakthrough with the album "Jagged Little Pill." She has recounted struggles with panic attacks, depression, and sex addiction, detailing in a 2018 interview that it took considerable therapy to overcome suicidal thoughts and past trauma. The recording of "Jagged Little Pill" itself was not without its challenges, as Morissette recalled that record executives were initially hesitant about including the hit song "You Oughta Know."
