AJ Odudu has showcased her rigorous training for the upcoming "Gladiators: Celebrity Special," a one-off BBC program featuring a lineup of well-known personalities.
Odudu, who is also a presenter for "Big Brother," posted images of herself in workout attire, highlighting her physical conditioning and weightlifting sessions. The former "Strictly Come Dancing" contestant expressed her excitement about participating in the show, stating it fulfills a childhood dream. "I am stepping inside the TV to do the show I wanted to do as a kid, it's so exciting," she said.
She will be joined by comedian Chris Ramsey, architect George Clarke, and comedian Sara Pascoe for the special. Ramsey, 39, acknowledged his mixed feelings about the challenge, noting that while he was a fan of the original series, he wished the opportunity had come when he was younger. "However, a large part of me does wish it could have been while I was in my 20s and not 40… but there you go," he commented. Ramsey also anticipates the physical toll, mentioning "the inevitable months of rehab and physiotherapy that will no doubt follow."
Pascoe, 45, humorously described the show as an opportunity to "live out my childhood dream of humiliating myself on national television."
Bradley and Barney Walsh are set to host the "Gladiators: Celebrity Special." Bradley Walsh shared his personal connection to the show, recalling his wife's involvement in the original series and bringing his son to watch it being filmed. He also participated as a celebrity guest in 1997.
Details regarding the broadcast date for "Gladiators: Celebrity Special" are yet to be announced by the BBC.
In related television news, reports suggest that ITV has shelved "Celebrity Big Brother" for 2026. The reality show, previously hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best, had tentative plans for a move to ITV2 in 2027. However, sources indicate that securing high-profile celebrities has become a challenge, with many reportedly opting for other programs like "The Celebrity Traitors." "Celebrity Big Brother," which first aired in 2001, has had 24 series across various networks. An ITV spokesperson stated that "Big Brother" is returning to ITVX and ITV2 later this year, with no definitive decisions made for 2027.
