Aimee Lou Wood was barely recognisable while filming scenes for the feature Anxious People in east London on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, adopting a low-key look as she shot an action-packed sequence.
The 31-year-old, best known for her role in the Netflix series Sex Education, was dressed in an oversized jacket, loose trousers and a black beanie as she portrayed a tense character amid a Christmas-market setting. She is reported to play Grace, a reluctant bank robber, in the holiday-themed adaptation of Fredrik Backman’s novel.
Photographs from the location show Wood appearing anxious and on edge before and during a filmed chase sequence through streets dressed as a festive market. Onlookers and crew members were present as production captured multiple takes, according to witnesses at the scene.
The film is directed by Marc Forster, whose credits include World War Z, and is adapted from Backman’s 2019 novel Anxious People. Angelina Jolie is among the cast attached to the project; further casting and production details have not been confirmed by the film’s distributors. The novel, by the author of A Man Called Ove, follows a group of strangers whose lives intersect after a failed bank robbery and a subsequent hostage situation, material that the production appears to be translating into a cinematic, seasonal story.
Wood’s unassuming wardrobe and subdued demeanor on set stood in contrast to the more stylised looks associated with red-carpet appearances. Crew were observed setting up and resetting the market props as multiple camera angles were rehearsed; the shooting appeared to involve both staged crowd scenes and close-up coverage of Wood’s character.
Representatives for Wood and the film did not immediately respond to requests for comment. No official release date for Anxious People has been announced, and the production schedule remains under wraps. Filming in and around London has attracted attention as crews have worked to transform parts of the city into a winter market environment for several sequences.
Wood’s presence in the project continues a recent trend of television actors moving into high-profile film adaptations. The decision to place a known television performer opposite an established film star reflects industry casting practices that pair familiar small-screen talent with marquee names to broaden a film’s appeal. Further casting confirmations, release plans and distribution details are expected to be released by the producers as principal photography continues.
