Singer Adele has shared a rare glimpse into her relationship with her 13-year-old son, Angelo, revealing their bond has deepened through a shared enthusiasm for Formula 1. The Grammy-winning artist, 38, made a surprise visit to the McLaren Racing headquarters, where she spoke with CEO Zak Brown and drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Adele explained that Angelo's interest in karting, a common pathway into professional racing, led to her own immersion in the sport. "I don't know many teenagers who have a passion so I'm really trying to encourage it," she said of her son's interest. "He's obsessed but I'm also obsessed."
She detailed how this shared interest has created a unique connection with her son. "I don't think I ever expected to bond with my soon to be 14 year-old son about something so passionately where we like argue about drivers, you know," Adele stated. "But it's fun to have that interaction with a teenage boy."
During her visit, Adele also candidly discussed her career and her feelings about fame. When Lando Norris asked if she still enjoyed singing, Adele admitted, "I don't sing very often anymore." Despite this, she couldn't resist belting out a few lines from Britney Spears' "...Baby One More Time" while trying on a driving headset.
Reflecting on her profession, the singer described her job as a singer as "ridiculous" and spoke about her ongoing struggles with fame. "I never thought that I was the talent," she said, recalling her earlier ambition to be an A&R representative. "It is incredibly unlikely that a girl from Tottenham is going to go on to have any kind of career in England, let alone sort of universally." She added that she "just always try[ies] and lean into that" by reminding herself that her job is a "joke."
The interview also touched upon her relationship with her partner, sports agent Rich Paul, whom she has been with for five years. Paul previously shared that their relationship developed organically after meeting through mutual friends in their respective professional circles. He noted that while their initial interactions were cordial, things eventually evolved into a romantic connection.
Adele has also spoken about her desire to have more children. During a concert, she confided in her audience about her plans to expand her family, even sharing potential names she has been keeping noted on her phone, such as Parker, Spencer, and Ray.
