Actor Adam Sandler's role as the officiant for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's recent wedding has drawn some fan commentary, prompting a defense from his "Click" co-star Jana Kramer. The wedding, which reportedly cost $50 million, took place on July 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Sandler, 59, officiated the ceremony for the Grammy-winning singer and the NFL star, both 36. While some fans expressed surprise at the choice, Kramer, 42, spoke on her podcast "Whine Down" to offer a different perspective.
"I will say [on] the Adam Sandler piece of things, I met him a million years ago. I did that movie Click with him," Kramer said. She recalled Sandler as a "sweet" and "good" man, suggesting these qualities make his participation in the wedding understandable.
Kramer, who played the daughter-in-law to Sandler's character in the 2006 film "Click," added that Sandler has a "sentimental" personality. She described him as being "very intentional when he speaks" and noted that he is often "soft-spoken" in real life, contrasting with some of the characters he portrays.
Sandler accepted the invitation to officiate the wedding immediately, according to a source who spoke to People. The insider stated that Sandler was "incredibly honored to be part of such a special day" and was considered the "perfect person" for the role due to his own long-standing marriage. Sandler and his wife, Jackie, celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary in June.
Sandler previously worked with Travis Kelce on the Netflix sequel to "Happy Gilmore," where the football player made a cameo appearance.
Swift and Kelce were later seen making their first public appearance as a married couple at the wedding of Kelce's former teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster on July 6. Smith-Schuster married his longtime girlfriend, Laura Kruk, in Laguna Beach, California.
