Chinese actor and singer Yu Menglong, best known for his role in the popular Netflix series Eternal Love, has died at age 37 after falling from a building, his management company said.

“With unbearable sorrow, we announce that our beloved Menglong fell to his death on September 11,” the company said in a video statement posted on Weibo. The statement said police had ruled out criminality and urged that his loved ones be allowed privacy as investigations continue.

Chinese authorities said there was no evidence of foul play but that inquiries into the circumstances of his death were ongoing. Details about how and where the fall occurred remain under investigation, and officials declined to release further information pending the completion of forensic and police work.

Media reports, citing a now-deleted post from a paparazzi account, said Yu had been at a friend’s apartment in Beijing the night before he died. The post said he spent the evening with five or six friends, locked himself in a guestroom at about 2 a.m., and that friends who left at about 6 a.m. later discovered his body on the ground floor; a resident walking a dog reportedly contacted police. Those accounts have not been independently verified by authorities and have been removed from social platforms.

Yu, born in 1988 in the Midong District, rose to fame after early appearances on the televised talent show Super Boy, first in 2010 and again in 2013 when he won the Beijing division and reached the top 10 nationally. He launched his recording career in 2013 with the single “Just Nice” and released his first album, Toy, in 2015.

He built a large following through television roles, including a breakout part as the ninth prince in the historical web drama Go Princess Go and later parts in Xuan-Yuan Sword: Han Cloud, Legend of the White Snake, and Who’s Not Rebellious Youth. His role as Bai Zhen in the 2017 fantasy-romance drama Eternal Love brought him widespread recognition; the series reportedly amassed more than 50 billion online views within 18 months and expanded his profile beyond China after streaming internationally.

News of Yu’s death prompted an outpouring of grief from fans across Asia and on social media platforms where tributes and condolences were posted. Several entertainment colleagues and fan groups released messages mourning the loss and asking for respect for the family’s privacy.

Yu had continued to appear in television productions and variety shows in recent years, maintaining a presence in music and acting. His management company did not immediately disclose funeral arrangements or surviving family members.

Authorities said they would provide further updates when investigations allowed. Media organisations and officials urged the public to rely on confirmed reports and to avoid spreading unverified information as inquiries proceed.
