Severe storms in upstate New York led to an unusual discovery at a cemetery, unearthing a headstone that had been buried for over a century. Staff from Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery found the headstone on Thursday after a large Norway Maple tree was uprooted by the intense weather.

The fallen tree revealed the gravestone of Edna Amelia Goodman Allen, who was born in 1892 and died at the age of 26 in 1918. According to cemetery records, she was survived by her husband, son, and six siblings. The headstone was largely concealed by the earth before the storm's powerful winds, which reached up to 55 mph according to the National Weather Service, ripped the tree from its roots.

The headstone is reported to be in remarkable condition, with legible inscriptions despite its age. Cemetery staff plan to clean and treat the headstone once the fallen tree has been removed from the site.
