A resurfaced social media post from Adam Robinson, founder of the tech startup Retention, highlights his past emphasis on work-life balance, occurring as details emerge about the tragic plane crash that claimed his life, his wife, their two young children, and the children's nanny.

Robinson, 45, was traveling with his wife Helen Sharp, 40, and their toddlers Emma, four, and Charlie, two, along with their nanny Anita Maria Cetina and another couple, Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr. The group was en route from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when the Learjet 60 business jet crashed near West Palm Beach, Florida, killing all nine occupants.

In an April post, Robinson reflected on his early career, contrasting the long hours worked by peers with the perceived desire of their families for their presence. He stated that he and his co-founders at Retention implemented a policy of ending workdays by 5:00 or 5:30 p.m. to prioritize family time. "My family life gives me energy for my work. My work gives me energy for my family life," Robinson had written.

The flight was reportedly heading to the Bahamas to celebrate Robinson's birthday. Shortly before the crash, co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras could be heard on air traffic control audio warning that the aircraft was descending rapidly and that they were "going to crash into the ground." Her pilot, Jeff Gregory, 55, was heard reciting the Lord's Prayer in the background.

Filgueiras had also reportedly messaged her boyfriend about encountering turbulence and ice shortly before the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has indicated that severe weather may have been a significant factor, with preliminary findings suggesting a portion of the jet may have broken off before impact.

Experts speculate the plane might have encountered a phenomenon known as 'coffin corner' while attempting to climb above storm cells. This occurs at high altitudes where the jet's minimum and maximum safe speeds converge, creating a narrow range that can lead to stalls and loss of control if deviated from.

The crash occurred approximately eight miles from President Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate. Debris from the impact was scattered across a wide area, creating a large crater in the road, but no one on the ground was injured.

The families of the victims released a joint statement remembering Adam and Helen as "devoted parents" whose children "were the light of their lives." They described them as a "love affair that will last forever," whose "warmth, generosity and gift for making people feel welcome touched so many lives." Reed and Fehr were characterized as "full of joy and adventure," and Anita Maria Cetina was noted for her "tenderness and devotion" as a caregiver to the children.
