Sam's Club is introducing a new meal kit designed to feed a family for under $16, a move aimed at attracting shoppers looking for affordable dinner options as inflation impacts household budgets. The Member's Mark Chicken Shawarma Kit, a 37-ounce offering, is available for just under $16 on the retailer's website.

This prepared meal is part of a larger strategy by the warehouse club to offer more convenient solutions for busy families. "Our members consistently tell us they want convenient, high-quality meal solutions at an incredible value," a Sam's Club spokesperson stated. "From the Member’s Mark Chicken Shawarma Kit to dinner staples like our top-rated Member’s Mark Seasoned Rotisserie Chicken, we’re taking the guesswork out of mealtime with options our members can feel good about serving."

The shawarma kit includes six pitas, pre-cooked chicken shawarma, Mediterranean-style bruschetta, feta cheese, garlic sauce, and tahini sauce. This offering competes not only on price but also on convenience, a key factor for busy households.

"Warehouse clubs aren’t just competing on price, they’re competing on the value of time," said Laura Burkemper, founder and CEO of SCALEBLAZER. "For busy families, the question at 5 p.m. isn’t simply, ‘What’s cheapest?’ It’s ‘What can I put on the table quickly, affordably, and without another decision to make?' A $16 family meal is compelling because it solves several consumer pain points at once: affordability, convenience, portion size, and predictability."

Bryan Gildenberg, founder and CEO of Confluencer Commerce, noted that Sam's Club's shopper demographic makes a price-sensitive meal deal particularly relevant. "For Sam’s, a price-sensitive meal deal makes enormous sense given that their members are more likely to be making different choices in the face of food and fuel inflation," Gildenberg explained.

Online reviews for the meal kit have generally praised its convenience and price. However, some customers have raised concerns about the portion sizes, with several noting that the ingredients were insufficient to fill all six pitas. Some reviewers reported running short of chicken or other components, suggesting that additional side dishes might be necessary to adequately feed a family of four.
