Panera Bread has been named the top fast-food chain for breakfast by Consumer Reports, with its avocado, egg white, and spinach sandwich earning the highest marks. This ranking places the sandwich chain, which typically lacks drive-thru service at most locations, ahead of established breakfast leaders.

The winning sandwich, served on a sprouted grain bagel flat and topped with tomato slices and aged white cheddar cheese, costs an average of $5, contains 410 calories, and offers 21 grams of protein. Consumer Reports awarded it a four out of five for nutrition and a perfect five out of five for its sensory score, which assesses texture and flavor.

Panera also secured additional high rankings for its steel-cut oatmeal with strawberries and pecans, and its oatmeal with almonds, quinoa, and honey. Jamba Juice's oatmeal with strawberries and brown sugar crumble followed in fourth place.

Despite the positive review from Consumer Reports, online discussions on platforms like Reddit reveal a mixed reception from consumers. Some users expressed disappointment with the visual discrepancies between promotional images and the actual product, with one commenter stating, "Don’t eat at Panera. It’s always disappointing." Another noted that the avocado on the sandwich appeared unappetizing in user-shared photos.

McDonald's, a long-standing favorite for breakfast, appeared in the rankings with its Egg White Delight and Egg McMuffin, but neither made it into the top ten. Starbucks also had several offerings recognized, including red pepper sous vide egg white bites, a spinach, feta, and egg white wrap, and a berry yogurt parfait.

Dunkin' was also represented with its veggie egg white on an English muffin and oatmeal with dried fruit.

This recognition comes after Panera Bread modified its Unlimited Sips Club promotion earlier in the year. The subscription, which previously offered unlimited self-serve beverages for $10.99 a month, now limits members to 30 drinks per redemption period, though it continues to be a popular offering.
