Mony Group, the parent company of MoneySuperMarket, MoneySavingExpert, and Quidco, has saved British consumers nearly £3 billion over the past year, according to CEO Peter Duffy. The company's efforts are particularly significant amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, where consumers are seeking to minimize household expenses.

Duffy stated that nearly 13 million active customers used the company's platforms last year, resulting in an estimated £2.8 billion in savings. "Real people can’t afford to waste money on policies that don’t meet their needs in the most effective way, at any time," Duffy said. "You shouldn’t be overpaying if you don’t need to when money is tight."

The increase in energy costs, with a 13 percent rise in the price cap in July leading to a 30 percent jump in consumers looking to switch providers, exemplifies the current economic pressures. The annual cost for a typical dual-fuel household paying by direct debit reached £1,663.

Regarding his collaboration with consumer advocate Martin Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert, Duffy described Lewis as a passionate campaigner dedicated to empowering consumers and ensuring they receive better deals and understand complex financial products. Lewis's efforts have contributed to the company's reputation as a trusted source for saving money.

Mony Group, which began as Mortgage 2000 and later became Moneysupermarket.com, has evolved significantly. The company acquired MoneySavingExpert.com in 2012 and rebranded as Mony Group two years ago. Duffy, who took over as CEO in 2020, aims to help families in a "smart, modern way."

Despite reporting record revenues of £227 million in the first half of the current year, Mony's share price has decreased by a third since Duffy assumed leadership. Concerns about artificial intelligence potentially disrupting the company's business model and rising pay-per-click (PPC) advertising costs have impacted the share performance.

To counter these challenges and foster stronger customer relationships, Mony Group launched the SuperSaveClub three years ago. This loyalty program now boasts 2.5 million members and offers perks designed to encourage repeat engagement. A new advertising campaign featuring David Tennant aims to signal this shift towards building more meaningful customer connections.

Duffy is embracing AI, highlighting a new ChatGPT app designed to streamline the insurance application process by reducing repetitive questions and saving customers time. He also pointed to the Price Optimiser tool for car insurance, which has helped 200,000 users save an average of £25 in the last six months.

He expressed skepticism about consumers using AI directly to find deals, emphasizing the regulated nature of Mony's services and the sensitive personal data involved. "We've got a deep moat here," Duffy stated. "Everything we do is regulated. Everything we do involves the exchange of quite significant amounts of personal data, and if you put that into an AI large language model, you wouldn’t know where that went."

Mony Group continues to focus on helping consumers find better deals, acknowledging that broader structural issues contribute to the cost-of-living crisis. "There are broader political themes," Duffy commented. "We only do what we can, which is find people better deals."
