Manchester City has joined Tottenham in expressing interest in Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, contacting the player's representatives about a potential transfer. Liverpool, however, has not yet received a formal offer for the Dutch international.
The Anfield club is reportedly not looking to sell Gakpo, prioritizing strengthening their attack rather than weakening it. While Liverpool is pursuing deals for Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain and Yankuba Minteh from Brighton, there is no guarantee these new additions would immediately contribute at Gakpo's level. Gakpo, who recently signed a new contract, remains a key attacking threat, as demonstrated in his performance against Newcastle.
While Gakpo is reportedly open to a new challenge, he is not expected to force a move. Tottenham has been a long-term suitor throughout the summer and has already secured Savinho for £85 million from City, with Omar Marmoush also expected to join on loan.
Manchester City's interest is notable, especially after agreeing to a £34 million deal for Brazilian youngster Allan Elias from Palmeiras. The club is seeking versatile forward options after the departure of Marmoush. Both City and Tottenham have also considered other winger options, such as Pedro Neto, but Chelsea's asking price of £100 million is considered prohibitive. Jack Grealish was also reportedly considered by Spurs, but he is currently expected to remain with City.
