Lundberg Family Farms has expanded a recall for its white jasmine rice, encompassing over 27,000 packages sold at major retailers including Walmart, Target, and Whole Foods. Consumers are advised to examine purple, two-pound packages of the rice for specific lot codes and best-by dates.
The affected products include bags with best-by dates of Feb. 1, 2027, and lot code 260201, as well as those with a best-by date of Feb. 2, 2027, and lot code 260202. The recall, initially issued in April, now includes the states of California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified the recall as Class II, indicating that exposure to the rice could lead to temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. The FDA stated the recall was initiated due to potential contamination with foreign materials.
Lundberg Family Farms has instructed consumers to discard the rice or return it for a refund. The company reported that no customer illnesses have been associated with the recalled product. A spokesperson for Lundberg Family Farms stated that the affected product was removed from store shelves months ago and that the issue was isolated to a single production run.
