Halfords shares reached a four-year high on August 27, 2026, following an announcement that warm weather has boosted the retailer's profit outlook for the year. The company reported that heightened seasonal demand for products such as air conditioning units has generated an additional £5 million in profits.

This unusually warm summer has led to increased demand, prompting Halfords to anticipate that its annual results will be weighted more heavily towards the first half of the fiscal year. The company now forecasts pre-tax profits to be between £55 million and £65 million, an upward revision from its previous expectation of £52.6 million. At the market open, shares surged 11% to 271 pence, contributing to year-to-date gains exceeding 90%.

"Halfords has continued to outperform over recent months," the company stated. "This reflects momentum in the underlying business as we continue to deliver against our strategic priorities alongside a very strong performance in seasonal categories, in part reflecting unusually warm summer weather."

The positive performance offers a significant uplift for Halfords, which has been working to increase sales and mitigate rising costs across its garage and retail operations. The company is undertaking a modernization of its garage network, which includes introducing specialist electric vehicle servicing equipment to most sites and equipping staff with tablets for vehicle inspections. Over 100 such garages have already been opened, with a target of 35 more this year.

In the previous financial year, Halfords returned to profitability, experiencing a 4.8% increase in like-for-like sales. The company noted that its repair services continue to gain traction, viewing Britain's aging car stock as a key opportunity for growth.

Chris Beauchamp, chief market analyst at IG, commented on the company's performance, stating, "Halfords shares have really climbed in recent months, and today's numbers seem to confirm that this wasn't just due to over-inflated expectations. Not only was guidance boosted significantly, but the whole forecast bracket sits above previous expectations."
